Calling all Dancing Queens - The ABBA musical comes to the Muny!
Why see Mamma Mia!?
The ABBA-LICIOUS MUSICAL COMES TO THE MUNY!
Having breezed onto Broadway 14 years ago, and now about to wave goodbye to the United States, get your vacation feels on with this ABBA-tastic jukebox musical at the Muny this summer. With a pop and disco soundtrack provided by the Swedish band's extensive back catelogue and even spawning a movie starring Meryl Streep, this island-based love story explores the relationship between a mother and teenage daughter, as well as finding love in unexpected places!
Middle-aged Donna and restless teenage daughter Sophie are both eking out a simple existence on an unnamed, sundrenched Greek island as hoteliers; Sophie is engaged to Skye, her island boyfriend, who dreams about traveling the world; Donna has thrown herself into work, and has no time for love.
But when Sophie's impending nuptials loom on the horizon, the teen sneaks a peek at her mother's diary, and fires off invitations to three different ex-lovers of Donna, in order to discover which of them is her father, whom she has never met.
The three arrive on the island puzzled at the strange request - at the same time, two of Donna's best female friends (and ex popstar band-mates) arrive to upturn her life. Will Sophie ever discover her father's identity and fulfill her dreams of travel? And with three ex-lovers back in her life, will Donna rekindle love? With ABBA classics such as Voulez-Vous, Dancing Queen and Gimme Gimme Gimme, this jukebox musical blazed the trail for similar shows, and provides a feel-good soundtrack to your summer.
